Jonathan Mellor is an Assistant Professor at the University of Connecticut. As an educator, he focuses on developing experiential learning opportunities for his students. He is the faculty advisor for UConn’s Engineers Without Borders chapter and the Co-Director of the Engineering for Human Rights Initiative.

As a researcher, he continues to develop complex systems approaches to establish relationships between climate change and water security in Connecticut and beyond. His research can both inform policymakers about the impacts of climate change as well as help vulnerable communities adapt to a changing climate. When not traveling, you will find him hiking, skiing and running through the beautiful New England countryside!

Sardorbek Musayev is a PhD student and Graduate Assistant in the Environmental Engineering Program. His M.Sc degree in Environmental Science is from Mysore University, India and he has a B.Sc. in Water Resources Management from Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Melioration (TIIM). Prior to enrolling at UCONN as a graduate student in 2016, he worked in Nazar Business and Technology (NBT), LLC consulting company as a water resources management specialist in the World Bank funded Fergana Valley Water Resources Management Project Phase – I.

He worked in designing and developing a MIS/M&E database and maps to demonstrate Environmental conditions, land use, project performance, progress and impacts. He also worked in the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation funded Water Resources Management Support Program (WRMSP) to teach farmers how to develop water use plans, collect data (monitoring wells, canals, rivers, etc) and develop GIS maps of farmers’ plots. He also worked for the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) – Tashkent Office as a research assistant on projects related to socio-technical studies of Water Users Associations in transboundary regions of Central Asia. His research interest is in the area of coupled hydro-climatic variability and human interaction in developing countries.

Suganya Pandian

Suganya is a PhD student and Graduate Research Assistant at University of Connecticut in the Environmental Engineering Program. During her Master’s degree at Georgia Tech, she worked on water treatment using ultrasound. Her core focus is on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) in developing countries. Currently, she is working on predicting climate change impact on diarrheal diseases in low and middle income countries. As a side project, she is working on analyzing water quality data from Ethiopia.

Tara Walsh

Tara is a PhD student and GAANN fellow in the Environmental Engineering program. She received her bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in 2016. During her undergrad, Tara completed several internships with MassDOT and D.W.White Construction.  Tara is currently working on an Agent Based Model to estimate and reduce time to restoration for power outage recovery for storm events in Connecticut.

Kelsey Reeves is in her senior year as an undergraduate student in the Environmental Engineering program at UCONN. She is the chair of new initiative to start an irrigation project in Ethiopia through Engineers Without Borders – USA and is a member of the NSF First in Family Energy Scholars Program, Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society, and the Society of Women Engineers. Prior to attending UCONN, Kelsey worked at a wastewater treatment plant as an intern and earned her Operator 1 license. Kelsey also does research with Dr. Maria Chrysochoou on the reduction of hexavalent chromium using polyphenols in green tea as a possible solution for chromium remediation. She plans to attend graduate school and hopes to continue to do water related work for developing areas.

Beth is a senior in the Environmental Engineering program at UConn with a minor in Spanish. Last summer she worked in consulting as an engineering Intern with a major focus on remediation. Outside of the classroom, Beth has been extensively involved in Engineers Without Borders, serving in multiple executive positions including chair of a new project in the Dominican Republic. She is also a member of the Engineering Student Leadership Council, Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society, and numerous volunteer organizations.
